Your piece of nature in February

Your piece of nature in February

In February, the garden slowly begins to awaken from its winter sleep, and this is a perfect time to get to work in the garden.

You can give structure to the garden by planting hedge plants and shrubs. Hedges not only provide protection from wind and prying eyes, but are also popular with birds for shelter.

If you want to change the layout of your garden, this is a good time to move shrubs and trees. These are now at rest and therefore less susceptible to stress during a move. But note, do this only when there is no frost in the ground.

You can brighten up your garden in this month with beautiful perennials such as Doronicum, Saxifraga, Iberis, Primula, Sedums, Euphorbia, Bergenia, Arabis blepharophylla, Arabis Caucasica ‘Little Treasure Rose’ and all kinds of colors of Erysimum. These bloomers bring color and cheer to your now-quiet garden.

It is also a good time to split perennials to keep them healthy. Remove unsightly foliage from Helleborus so the flowers stand out better.

Remember to hang birdhouses, because in this early spring, birds are already looking for nesting sites.

And above all, keep weeding, because with the rising temperatures, weeds are coming out too! This will save you a lot of work later. So, February is the month to get your garden ready for a colorful and vibrant season!
