Lysimachia atropurpurea ‘Beaujolais’ is a perennial that does well in full sun to light partial shade. Choose a well-drained soil. Avoid wet or heavily compacted soil; the plant is prone to root rot if too much moisture is present.
In spring (March) prune back the old stems to the base. During flowering in June-August, the plant is attractive to bees and butterflies. After flowering, cut back the spent spikes to maintain a neat appearance or possibly encourage a second bloom.
The plant is short-lived (2-3 years), but may spread slightly if some flower spikes remain. In dry periods, water sparingly. In pots, pay extra attention to drying out and winter protection in severe frosts.
Winter hardiness is good (down to -15 °C). Plant density: 7-9 per m². Not suitable for wet spots such as pond edges or heavy clay without soil improvement.
In short: low maintenance, does require good location and drainage.
