Heuchera sanguinea ‘Ruby Bells’

Heuchera ‘Ruby Bells’ is a nice plant with beautiful green leaves. The leaves are heart-shaped and grow to about 25 cm tall, making the plant an ideal ground cover. The purplebell blooms with bright red flowers on long stems, nice as a cut flower. The Heuchera is leafy so also decorative in winter. And you don’t have to put much effort into it because it is hardy and can grow in many different places in the garden. In short, an easy and beautiful plant!

Care tips

The Heuchera is easy to care for, does well in cool, well-drained and moist soils, but less so in sandy and poor soils. Heuchera likes semi-shade and should definitely be kept out of full sun, or the leaves will burn.

Plant the roots of Heuchera slightly deeper than the crown because they root superficially. Also avoid planting them too close to vigorous perennials.

Every 3 years it is good to rejuvenate the plants: take them out of the ground, remove the long rhizome and replant the small, separate plants with small roots and a little rhizome. This way you keep the plant compact and with large leaves.
