Euphorbia characias ‘Silver Edge’, is a striking perennial with gray-green leaves with a silvery edge. In spring, it produces yellow-green flowers that are attractive to bees and other pollinators. It grows to 60-80 cm tall and has a bushy, upright form.
This Euphorbia thrives best in a sunny spot in well-drained, calcareous soil. It is fairly drought tolerant, but will need water during dry periods. Make sure there is enough sun to make the silver fringe visible. After flowering you can prune the flowers for a neater look, and in the fall you can cut the plant back.
The plant is hardy, but must be protected from too much rain in cold winters. Note that the milk sap is irritating to the skin, so wear gloves when handling.
Euphorbia characias ‘Silver Edge’ is ideal for borders, rock plantings or as an accent plant in the garden. It adds a fresh, silvery hue and attracts pollinators.
