Arenaria montana

Arenaria is a low-growing plant that creeps across the ground and forms dense sods. The Sandwort has small, narrow leaves that look like tiny awls. In summer it blooms profusely with beautiful white flowers! This plant grows nice and full and wide and stands up well to sea breezes. Perfect for a rock garden as a cheerful filler between the stones, or you can even grow it in a wall. It also does well between the tiles of your patio. You can even use it as a substitute for grass. In short, Arenaria montana is a great, versatile plant.

Care tips

Sandwort desires a calcareous grone and is most at home in sandy areas, especially along streets and on the coast. The plant disappears in winter, but makes a comeback in spring. Just before it revives, you can cut off or remove the old foliage.
