Care tips

The Kniphofia or Fire Arrow is native to South Africa. The plant is distinguished by its long and stately flower stalks with spike-shaped flowers. A summer-flowering perennial, the Kniphofia blooms with brightly colored flowers ranging from bright orange, salmon, red, yellow, white to greenish. As the flowering season progresses, the flowers fade to orange-yellow.

After flowering, the spent stems can be cut off as well as any unsightly leaves. The Kniphofia does require some space, it grows over 1.25 m high and 1 m wide.

Most species of Kniphofia are hardy. During a severe frost period, it is advisable to apply a thick layer of dry leaves around the base of the plant. After the frost period, the dead, dead leaves can be removed and the old leaves cut down to the ground.
