Echinacea

Echinacea is a popular perennial plant. The plant owes this popularity mainly to its beautiful blooms in the summer from July to September. Large flowers then appear on sturdy stems, resembling sunflowers. Are attractive to butterflies and bees. As the Dutch name suggests, this plant requires a sunny location.

Care tips

You prune the Echinacea in early spring by cutting off the dead parts just above the ground. In summer by cutting off spent flower stems. Always cut these just above a young shoot. After several years, take up the mature plant, divide and replant. This will enhance flowering.

During long cold frosts, cover the Echinacea due to possible freezing.
