Verbena bonariensis

Verbena bonariensis is actually not a standard perennial, but a biennial. Because this plant usually self-seeds, you can still enjoy it for years! It spreads like an adventurer among other plants, creating a loose and lively character of the border. Yarrow blooms from July to September and grows about 100-150 cm tall. With its tall, little-leaved stems and airy purple flowers, it can really stand elegantly among other plants. An absolute winner in the garden.

Care tips

If there are many young plants of Verbena bonariensis coming up, it is best to remove them by hand. And you know what’s also nice? Even in winter, the spent stems of Verbena bonariensis can still look beautiful. So you might consider cutting them off only next spring.

Grows very well in a sunny spot, in soil that lets water through well, even if a bit chalky. Not a fan of heavy or wet soil in winter, so prefer to keep those feet dry!
