Primula elatior ‘Silver Laced’

Compared to the better-known ‘Gold Laced,’ the contrast in the flower here is even greater. The flower is beautifully drawn, with a deep black base color and a striking yellow center in the middle. Each petal is outlined with a subtle silvery-white border. The Keyflower produces profuse blooms from about March through April. The large gray-green leaves complete the picture. This woodland plant is completely at home in shady gardens with several mature trees and shrubs.

Care tips

Primula thrives best in well-drained soil, where it gets some sun but also does well in partial shade. To make the flowering period last longer, it is smart to regularly remove the spent flowers. That way you can enjoy the floral splendor for longer!

This plant dies in the winter and sprouts again in the spring. Just before the new shoots emerge, you can cut off or remove the old leaves.
