Lewisia cotyledon

Lewisia cotyledon is a short-lived semi-succulent. Grows naturally in the Rocky Mountains, in the western US and is thus a true rock plant. The plant forms loose rosettes of spatulate leathery leaves. Blooms with funnel-shaped flowers in orange, lilac pink, yellow and white.

Care tips

This plant is suitable only for lovers of a “real rock garden,” as it is rather fussy about care, location and soil type. Requires a slightly shaded spot and a moderately nutrient-rich soil. In winter, take measures to keep the soil fairly dry. In addition, the soil should be lime-free and stony (work lime-free gravel through the soil). Some drought is well tolerated. Little or no proliferation and combines well with other plants.
