Malva sylvestris

Big cheeseweed is a striking, native plant that can grow quite tall. The absolute eye-catcher are the large, bright pink to purple flowers with graceful, dark stripes across the petals. This fresh plant blooms throughout the summer and is an absolute magnet for biodiversity. Thanks to the large amount of nectar and pollen, the plant attracts massive numbers of bumblebees, wild bees and butterflies. A wonderful, colorful addition to any nature garden!

Care tips

Malva sylvestris prefers a sunny or semi-shaded spot in normal to dry soil (no wet peaty soil). It is perfect for the back of the border, in a frontage garden or in a plant group. Big cheeseweed is hardy, non-toxic and dies above ground in winter. Cut the plant back completely in the spring for a fresh, new start!
