Origanum vulgare

Wild marjoram is a perennial plant with small leaves and pink to purple flowers that grows in summer in sunny, dry areas such as grasslands and roadsides. It has a strong fragrance and is important for biodiversity because it provides plenty of nectar, attracting many bees, butterflies and other insects, contributing to a healthy ecosystem. The plant is also used as a kitchen herb (oregano) to flavor dishes such as pizza and pasta.

Place the plant in a sunny, warm spot in dry, well-drained soil. Give little water, as the plant does not take well to wet feet. In spring, you can cut back old stems slightly so that it sprouts fresh again. It is useful to cut away spent flowers to prolong flowering and keep the plant tidy. Otherwise, it needs little care and can fend for itself well.
