Your piece of nature in August

Transform your garden into a green oasis full of life….

By choosing more biodiversity, you not only make your garden more beautiful, but you also lend a hand to nature.

Native plants are an excellent choice in this regard. Plant Eupatorium (Queen’s Wort), Salvia (Field Sage), Knautia (Broom Crown) or Origanum (Wild Marjoram), all toppers for pollinators. And make your borders a mix of flowering species, this increases the attraction for insects.

With a little extra attention, you can transform your garden into a safe haven for countless small animals. Nesting boxes for birds and insect hotels for wild bees and ladybugs, for example, ensure that these guests really feel at home. A messy corner with leaves or branches is perfect for hedgehogs, beetles and toads.

Want to control pests in an environmentally friendly way? Then avoid chemicals that harm insects and soil life. Chemicals kill more than just the pest; they disrupt the entire ecosystem. Rather, choose natural enemies such as birds and ladybugs that naturally control aphids and other pests. Affected plants can be sprayed with a mixture of 1 liter of water and 1 tablespoon of natural soap. Dill and Fennel plants are attractive to ladybugs and feeding tables and fat balls (though outside the breeding season) for birds.

Sustainable use of water is becoming increasingly important, especially during dry periods. By installing a rain barrel, you can easily collect rainwater to water your plants with. This water is softer than tap water and better for your garden. Cover the soil around your plants with mulch, such as wood chips or straw, to reduce evaporation and keep the soil moist longer. Preferably choose plants that can withstand drought well, such as Lavender, Sedum and Stachys (Gentoo). Avoid unnecessary paving. This will allow rainwater to soak into the soil better and keep your garden fresh and vibrant longer.

Small steps can make a big difference. Consider, for example, replacing one tile with a plant. And put a bowl of water outside for birds and insects. Let the grass grow a little longer – that helps against dehydration and attracts more life. With a few conscious choices, your garden not only becomes more beautiful, but also a valuable place for people, animals and nature. Do what is right for you, nature benefits!
