A small sequel to “Your Piece of Nature in November. The pots are now best placed together in a sheltered place. For example, against the wall or under a canopy.

You can also protect the plants by insulating them with a burlap sack or straw. Mediterranean and exotic plants overwinter best by placing them indoors in the shed or in an unheated room.

Tall plants are more vulnerable to wind if there is slack at the roots of the plant. Press the soil firmly and support the plant with a bamboo stick if necessary.

A few more tips for December:

Check and review your gardening tools so they will be garden ready next season.

In case of frost, turn off the outdoor faucet, drain the garden hose and protect your (wooden) rain barrel from freezing to pieces.

Birds also need drinking water in the winter. But stretch a piece of netting or something over the water bowl so they don’t bathe. They can then freeze to death.

And. as long as it doesn’t freeze, you can keep pruning.
